Alternate Calendars :: Hindu
In the Hindu calendar, the solar year is divided into 12 lunar months in accordance with the successive entrances of the sun into the signs of the zodiac. The months vary in length from 29 to 32 days. An intercalary month is inserted after every month in which two new moons occur, this happens once every three years. The intercalary month bears the name of the month that precedes it.
