Alternate Calendars :: Egyptian
Many different calendars were in use throughout Egyptian history, many simultaneously. This calendar was presented by Dr. Robert Brier in his work Ancient Egyptian Magic. The Epagomenal Days are the days on which the five great Egyptian gods were born. According to legend, their mother, Nut was forbidden from giving birth to them on any day of the year. Thoth heard of Nut’s plight and gained extra light from the moon to create five calendar days not of the year on which Nut could give birth to her children.
