Meditation Techniques :: Minute Meditation

Through meditation we become aware of our inner selves, our thoughts, emotions and physical sensations. Minute meditations offer the freedom to regain a sense of connectedness and self awareness regardless of where we are throughout our day.

All actions begin as thoughts, if you find yourself unsure of or put off by your own actions, stop and identify the basis for your action. More likely than not, you will find that the initial thought is out of harmony with your conscience or inner self. Now that you are aware of the disharmony, you have two choices, continue with your actions as they were or change them. Please note that speech is considered an action. If you find that your words are being misunderstood or are causing pain, stop and reconnect with the original concept. You may find a better way to express yourself.

Periodic physical check-ins are a great way to feed the subconscious with physical sensations and gain greater awareness of the body’s needs. At different times during the day, stop and really take in your surroundings. Notice colors, smells, textures, sights and sounds. A big part of meditation, ritual and spellwork is visualization and the more input your subconscious has to help it create these mental images, the easier they will come to you. Taking the time to observe your environment also forces you to be present in the moment and connected to the natural world. Regain physical balance during the day by conscious breathing or getting out in nature, even a few minutes will melt away stress and clear a cluttered mind.

Sustain your spiritual connections using minute meditation by recognizing, appreciating and acknowledging the beauty and spirit around you. Say a simple prayer to strengthen you communication and build your relationship with the sacred, reaffirm your spiritual path, or chant your mantra to open your spiritual self.

Ideally meditation should be done every day. Set aside 10-20 minutes before you go to bed or when you wake up in the morning to practice. At first you may find your body and mind resisting the new regimine, but that is completely normal and is not a valid reason to give up. The period of time it takes to achieve a state of altered consciousness differs from person to person but once you achieve it, it will come easily in the next session. If you have garnered success in the past with your own technique, by all means continue with it, but give these three styles a try too. Should you find that none of the three techniques work for you personally, design your own to fit your personality. If you are a person who enjoys music, use it in your sessions. If pleasing scents carry you away, burn incense, bake cookies, or take a scented bath and let the water ease your mind and body.
