Meditations :: Eos Dawn

Eos is the Greek goddess of the dawn, sister of Helios (the sun) and Selene (the moon) and mother of the winds. She brings opportunity and inspiration to each new day. This is a daily moving meditation focusing on Eos and should be done at sunrise, before you are fully awake, when the possibilities that the goddess brings still lie ahead.

Facing east to the rising sun, with arms outstretched at shoulder height to mimic the horizon, say a devotional to the Goddess, connect with her spirit and welcoming any new insights she may bring.

Breathe in as you imitate her rising by slowly bringing your arms over your head. See her rays beginning to crest over the horizon, lighting the way to a new day. Breathe out slowly when your palms come together.

Inhale deeply as you move, with palms together, to bring your hands straight down until the tips of your thumbs touch your forehead. As you breathe in, draw her rays of inspiration into your mind.

Exhale and see your ideas breaking free from your mind to penetrate into the physical world as you swing your arms back to the horizon position.

Inhale as you bring your arms over your head again. The goddess is rising higher in the sky now, revealing more of herself. Exhale slowly when your palms touch.

Draw air in through your mouth, feel it pass over your palate. As you inhale, bring your thumbs down to your lips. As the life-giving air rushes down your throat, sense the goddess blessing and illuminating your speech.

As you return your arms to the horizon position, exhale and see your words as sincere and compassionate, spoken to bring comfort and truth throughout the day.

Inhale and bring your arms over your head. The disk of the sun is almost fully risen now. Exhale as your palms come together.

Breathe in, moving your hands straight down until the tips of your thumbs touch your heart center. As you inhale you draw the goddess’ blessings into your heart and spirit. Feel her rays penetrate your heart, warm your spirit and bring a sense of promise into your very soul.

Exhale and swing your arms wide, back to the horizon position. See your spirit aura and know that all acts of kindness and beauty are yours. See yourself as you go through the day acting with compassion and empathy toward all others.

Bring your arms over your head once again as you inhale, but do not allow palms to touch. Instead, exhale and hold your arms open to the fully risen sun, just as your mind, heart and spirit are open the potential that Eos brings. The purple chariot of the goddess has drawn the sun from the depths of night once again. See her in her luminous glory, her saffron robe billowing behind her, her flaming scarlet hair blowing straight back. Her face beams with radiance as she brings the world a new day filled with potential and opportunity.

Thank the goddess for her blessings. Remain in this posture as long as you like, feeling her smile down on you even as she transfers the reigns to her brother Helios.
